About This Course

Visa Status

This course is open to individuals who hold full work rights and valid study rights within Australia. 

Experience

Currently employed in Australia as an electrician, or as an electrical trade assistant working under the supervision of a licensed electrician who can provide a Supervisor Declaration Form and a reference letter verifying relevant work experience.

State

This course is available exclusively in New South Wales and is not currently offered in any other state or territory, unless the student can demonstrate evidence of current or future work commitment in NSW.

The Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician equips individuals with the practical skills and technical knowledge required to select, install, set up, test, fault find, repair, and maintain electrical systems and equipment in buildings and premises.

This nationally recognized qualification includes the Essential Performance Capabilities outlined by the Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council (ERAC) for obtaining an Unrestricted Electrician’s Licence. As the course involves work on electrical installations operating above 50V AC or 120V DC, students must hold the appropriate licence or permit, or be undertaking training under a formal apprenticeship. At Alpha, this program is offered exclusively in New South Wales and supports both new entrants and apprentices through hands-on training in industry-standard facilities.

Who can do this course

Alpha Technical Training has the following entry requirements:

Students must also have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills as tested through a language, literacy and numeracy assessment. Students will need to achieve ACSF level 3 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course. Students will also need to demonstrate that they can use digital technologies which is assessed through the enrolment process.

Electrical Experienced Tradies

18 Months | Self-paced theory | 3 Days practicals every 3 months

Currently based in New South Wales

Currently employed by an electrical company with a minimum of 1.5 years of experience in electrical work

Able to participate in e-Profiling to record on-the-job learning and competency development

The course runs for a total of 18 months. Theory components are delivered online and can be completed at your own pace. Practical training is conducted in person every 3 months, over 3 consecutive full days

This is a full certification program. Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to apply for your licence

100 Points of ID, white card, a copy of visa or passport, resume, and employment reference letter

For RAC01 Licenced Techs

12 Months | Self-paced theory | 3 Days practicals every 3 months

Technicians who hold a RAC01 licence are eligible for credit transfer, allowing them to complete the course within 12 months

Currently based in New South Wales

Currently employed by an electrical company with a minimum of 1.5 years of experience in electrical work

Able to participate in e-Profiling to record on-the-job learning and competency development

Theory components are delivered online and can be completed at your own pace. Practical training is conducted in person every 3 months, over 3 consecutive full days

Electrical Full Course

This qualification is delivered through a blended learning model designed to support working tradespeople.

Students complete online learning prior to attending practical sessions, allowing face-to-face time to focus on hands-on skills and assessment.

Assessment includes a combination of knowledge-based assessments and practical tasks, aligned with industry and Training Package requirements.

The course duration and training requirements are structured to meet the AQF Volume of Learning. Where students have relevant prior skills or qualifications, they may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer, which may reduce the amount of training required, subject to assessment.

Training includes:

Self-paced online learning via our Learning Management System (LMS), including readings, videos, and learning activities

Live online sessions with trainers for guidance, explanations, and questions

Face-to-face practical training and assessment conducted in a workshop environment

Electrical Journeyman Pathway (For Licensed HVAC Technicians)

Alpha Technical Training offers an Electrical Journeyman pathway for licensed HVAC technicians who hold RAC01 Refrigerant Handling Certification and the relevant state HVAC licence.

Eligible students may receive Credit Transfer for units of competency that are common or equivalent between their existing HVAC qualification and the electrical qualification, in accordance with Training Package requirements.

For units not covered by credit transfer, students will complete training and assessment through the Electrical Journeyman pathway, which focuses on developing the additional electrical knowledge and practical skills required for licensing.

The amount of training, assessment activities, and practical requirements will be determined on an individual basis, taking into account units granted through credit transfer, prior experience, and assessment outcomes. All training and assessment is delivered in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Alpha Technical Training’s Training and Assessment Strategy, and the AQF Volume of Learning.
