As the theoretical component of the course is delivered online, applicants should be able to dedicate approximately 15–20 hours per week to self-paced study. If you can make this commitment, this course is well-suited for you.
Students must also have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills as tested through a language, literacy and numeracy assessment. Students will need to achieve ACSF level 3 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course. Students will also need to demonstrate that they can use digital technologies which is assessed through the enrolment process.

Alpha Technical Training offers a pathway for licensed electricians who wish to expand their skills and obtain a qualification in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration to become dual-traded.
Licensed electricians may be eligible for Credit Transfer for units of competency that are common or deemed equivalent between their existing electrical qualification and the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration qualification, in accordance with the Training Package rules and regulatory requirements.
For units not covered by credit transfer, students will undertake training and assessment through Alpha Technical Training’s electrician-to-HVAC pathway, which focuses on developing the specific skills and knowledge required for the installation, commissioning, servicing, and maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
The amount of training, assessment activities, and practical requirements required will be determined on an individual basis, taking into account units granted through credit transfer, prior skills and knowledge, and assessment outcomes. All training and assessment is conducted in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Alpha Technical Training’s Training and Assessment Strategy, and the AQF Volume of Learning.
No guaranteed duration, reduced timeframe, or outcome is offered unless supported by formal credit transfer and/or assessment decisions.
Alpha Technical Training recognises that experienced HVAC technicians may already possess some of the skills and knowledge required for this qualification.
Applicants with relevant industry experience may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and/or Credit Transfer, subject to the provision of valid, sufficient, and current evidence. Evidence may include workplace documentation, third-party reports from supervisors, and self-assessment aligned to the requirements of the relevant units of competency.
Where RPL or credit is granted, this may reduce the amount of training required. The actual duration of training, assessment activities, and practical requirements will be determined on an individual basis following assessment, in accordance with the Training Package requirements, Alpha Technical Training’s Training and Assessment Strategy, and the AQF Volume of Learning.
No guaranteed duration, reduced timeframe, or reduction in training or assessment is offered unless competency has been formally assessed and validated.
Students will complete self-paced learning in their own time. as well as attend online and face to face training.
Students will access their learning materials via an LMS and will work through learning activities and quizzes, as well as watch pre-recorded videos prior to attending face to face training and assessment
Students also participate in a 2-hour weekly session online where trainers go through unit content and answer questions
Face-to-face training comprises of students participating in practical training. Practical training is completed over 2 days at the end of each term
