What does this course allow me to do once licensed?
+
Once you hold the RSS003 licence, you can install and decommission single-head split air conditioners and heat pump systems up to 18kW. This includes wall-hung, floor/ceiling-mounted, cassette, ducted fan coil units, and heat pump water heaters. You cannot repair, maintain, or diagnose faults under this licence.
Do I need prior HVAC experience?
+
No prior HVAC experience is required, but you must hold a current Electrical Work Licence, a plumbing/gas fitting licence, or be a 3rd/4th year electrical apprentice with at least two years of industry experience. Non-electrical tradespeople may also be eligible via RPL.
How long does the course take?
+
The online theory component is self-paced and can be completed in your own time. The practical component is typically conducted over 2 intensive days at one of our training locations. Full-qualification international students (CRICOS Code 103423J) undertake a 36-week, 20-hours-per-week program.
Is this course nationally recognised?
+
Yes. UEE20120 is a nationally accredited qualification within the UEE Electrotechnology Training Package, regulated on training.gov.au. The qualification satisfies ARC's training requirements for the RSS003 Restricted Refrigerant Handling Licence nationwide.
Can I get credit transfer for units I've already completed?
+
Yes. If you have already completed units within the UEE Electrotechnology Training Package, you may be eligible for credit transfer. This can reduce both the volume of learning and the time required to achieve the qualification. Contact us to have your prior training assessed.
Where can I train? Is on-site training available?
+
We offer regular intakes across major Australian cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Gold Coast, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, and more. We also provide on-demand training at your business address, subject to minimum group requirements — contact us on 1300 614 292 to arrange.
What can I study after completing the Cert II?
+
Graduates can progress to the Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (UEE32225) via an apprenticeship pathway or RPL — becoming a fully qualified air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic. This is one of Australia's most in-demand trades, with excellent earning potential.
Are there any additional state/territory requirements after getting the ARC licence?
+
Yes. Licence holders should check with their state or territory regulators, as additional requirements may apply. Work is also subject to WHS/OHS regulations and relevant Australian Standards in your jurisdiction.
